Types of acne treated

Sebaceous glands produce a substance called sebum (oil), which is responsible for keeping skin and hair moisturized. When sebum, which normally drains to the skin's surface, gets blocked in the follicles or "pores", bacteria begins to grow. This bacteria, propionibacterium acnes, results in acne vulgaris (acne), commonly indicated by blackheads, whiteheads and other types of "pimples" and skin blemishes.

Acne Treatment

The acne process is a proven, clinically effective treatment for all types of acne:

*Blackheads - an open comedone (blemish) that occurs when a pore is partially blocked by sebum, dead skin cells and bacteria.

*Whiteheads - a closed comedone that occurs when a pore is completely blocked, trapping sebum, bacteria and dead skin cells and resulting in a white appearance on the surface.

*Papules - small, red, tender bumps with no "head" (white or yellow center).

*Pustules - similar to an inflamed whiteAssessment & Treatmenthead, appearing as a red circle with a white or yellow center.

*Cysts -- similar to a nodule, but 5 mm or more in diameter and pus-filled. Cystic acne can be painful, and scarring is common. Treating cystic acne requires special care.

Assessment & Treatment

To determine your personalized acne treatment plan, we will individually assess your skin type and the type and severity of your acne. This comprehensive assessment will include a general medical history and review of past acne treatments, their effectiveness and their side effects. A physical skin examination will include diagnostics such as the Fitzpatrick Skin Type Classification and Burton Acne Scale.

The acne treatment process includes the latest technologies and laser therapies shown to effectively treat acne by reducing oil production and killing bacteria without the use of drugs. The acne treatment process also utilizes microdermabrasion, a non-invasive exfoliation procedure, to reduce clogged pores and improve the cosmetic appearance of acne scars. To optimize results, our patient's acne skincare program may include our specialized line of prescription-strength cosmeceuticals, Belnatur, specifically formulated for acne prone skin.
